If this is not treated properly and under appropriate conditions, bacteria can cause serious infections and dental abscesses. As a result, bone and tooth loss may occur.
In Which Situations Is Root Canal Treatment Performed?
The main reasons for root canal treatment are caries and cracks in the tooth bone. In case of extensive damage to the teeth, the pulp part is removed and the healthy part of the tooth is preserved. Swelling in the gums, cracked teeth, wounds on the gums and pain during chewing are among the reasons that can result in root canal treatment.
How is Root Canal Treatment Performed?
Root canal treatment is performed in 4 steps. The specialist takes x-rays to examine the root structure of the tooth and to examine the presence of infection. The caries and infections detected in the tooth are cleaned out thoroughly, the tooth canals are shaped and filled and the tooth is made fully functional again. Depending on the current condition of the tooth, root canal treatment may require one or two sessions. Root canal treatment is usually performed under local anesthesia and a session usually takes around 45 minutes.
Things to Consider After Root Canal Treatment
Care should be taken not to eat anything for at least three hours after the treatment. It is important not to interrupt routine dental care after root canal treatment. If routine care is taken under appropriate conditions, the treated tooth can be retained for many years.
