Monolithic Zirconium
Monolithic Zirconium
A crown method using zirconium without porcelain. The process is performed by colouring the zirconium; a monolithic, natural-looking crown method, performed in blocks. The latest generation monolithic zirconium treatment, has an aesthetic appearance and very high fracture strength, is a popular preferred method used today.
What is Monolithic Zirconium?
Monolithic zirconium; Unlike classical zirconium crown methods, it is performed without placing porcelain on the zirconium. With the colouring and make-up of zirconium, crowns with a very aesthetic appearance and high fracture resistance are obtained. Treatments performed with monolithic zirconium are completed in a much shorter time frame compared to alternative methods available.
In Which Areas Is Monolithic Zirconium Crown Used?
The situations where it is recommended to have monolithic zirconium crowns are listed as follows:
For patients with fractures and corrosion problems in their front teeth.
For patients who have damaged teeth due to grinding/clenching habits.
In cases where a crown with high durability is required.
For patients having had crown treatment in the past; those who have difficulty in biting food, have tooth sensitivity, or with a limited time frame for treatment.
For patients who experience discoloration in their teeth and gums.
Monolithic zirconium crown treatment is recommended for people who have difficulty in biting and chewing food and who have intense tooth sensitivity problems.
How is Monolithic Zirconium Crown Performed?
Before starting monolithic zirconium crown treatment, a detailed examination is performed by the specialist physician. In line with the detailed examination and x-ray results, any damage to the teeth is detected. The teeth are grinded in accordance with the crowns, and then detailed measurements of the teeth are taken. In order to prepare monolithic zirconium blocks suitable for tooth dimensions, the dimensions are initially examined on the computer and the crown model is then prepared with the help of three-dimensional printers. The prepared models are performed on the zirconium blocks and the crown model is created. Crowns are prepared for the patient in accordance with the natural colour tone of the teeth and placed.
What are the Advantages of Monolithic Zirconium Crown?
The advantages of the monolithic zirconium crown method can be listed as follows;
Materials compatible with natural teeth are used, and the treatment does not cause any allergic reactions.
It provides an aesthetic appearance compatible with natural tooth colour, imitating the transparency of natural teeth.
Since metal-like crown materials are not used, patients do not experience problems such as detecting their crowns in their daily life.
It is very easy to place the zirconium crowns to the natural teeth, and the risk of fracture is very low.
Zirconium is a very durable material. Monolithic zirconium crown treatment provides high tolerance against chewing and biting problems. Thus, it can be used for a long time.
Monolithic and Standard Zirconium Crown Differences
While porcelain is used in traditional zirconium treatment, its is not used in monolithic zirconium. Solid zirconium is used.
Contrary to the traditional method, monolithic zirconium performed as monolithic blocks are far more durable.
The transparency of monolithic zirconium is higher than the standard method. Thus, it provides a more natural appearance.
The monolithic zirconium method is also completed in a much shorter time compared to the traditional method.
